Regenerating Paradise invites the community to two events in October that will teach you how to use the winter rains to build soil in your gardens and nurture the growth of native plants and wildflowers.

On Saturday, October 18th, from 9am to noon, we’ll learn how to “Love Your Soil” by using organic amendments to encourage the microbial environment that will nurture long-term fertility.
The following Saturday, October 25th, from 9 to noon, we’ll learn more about “Cultivating Native Plants”—recognizing what’s already there, selecting other plants, and nurturing their
growth for beauty, drought tolerance, and fire resilience.
Both events will take place at the Cypress Family Apartments off Cypress Rd in Paradise.

At this pair of workshops, you'll get hands-on experience and learn practical techniques
to beautify and safeguard your property while protecting its ecology. Ken Scherer,
founder of the Biochar Coalition and soil alchemist, will lead the soil workshop, and
Carolyn Short, nurserywoman and native plant enthusiast, will lead the native plant
workshop. Get your hands in the dirt and help us make Paradise and our planet a safer
and more regenerative place, all while making connections with your neighbors!
We’ll meet at CHIP’s Cypress Family Apartments off Clark Rd in Paradise, at 1567 Adams Rd—or just go to the parking lot at the top of Cypress at 8:45, and we’ll carpool over to the native plant site.
This opportunity is hosted in partnership with Neighbor-to-Neighbor, California Volunteers, Paradise Recreation & Parks District, and CHIP, the Community Housing Improvement Program.

Had a great time! Thank you! ~Ken
